Route to La Majada del Cojo

Route to La Majada del Cojo

peq-3-ANTONIO(6)-t500
Approximate distance: 11 Km. (Circular route)
Approximate time: 4 - 5 hours.
Slope: 500 meters of altitude.
Difficulty: Medium-High

It passes next to the Great Route 10 (GR 10) and leads us to the mountain refuge called La Majada del Cojo. After crossing the Ancient Ages and the characteristic dehesas of ash trees, it ascends to the pine groves through oak groves and then descends along the Camino Viejo. For this we must follow the path of the hermitage of Santa Ana and once on the stone cross, instead of diverting to the Hermitage, we continue along the road about 4 km more.

To begin this route we must go to the south of the municipality, where the Lozoya River flows. Once there we follow the purple markers, taking the road that appears on the right as soon as you pass the heliport. We will cross the old farm lands until we reach the beginning of the oak forest called "Moroviejo and Santa Ana".

When we reach the stone cross, we can take a small road to the right to visit the Hermitage of Santa Ana (13th century). The route continues ascending always along the main road until we reach the edge of the pine forest. If we want to go to the shelter of the Majada del Cojo we will deviate from the route by the road to the right but, if we follow the purple markers, the route starts to descend back to Alameda del Valle, entering the so-called Camino Viejo, said by the way, handmade.
