The mowing meadows

The mowing meadows

peq-0-VALLEJO-t500In the lower part of the valley we find the mowing meadows. These are flat lands with soft reliefs that allow the grass to grow in order to provide feed for the cattle during the pasture season and to have hay for the winter period. This type of ecosystem is based on the alternation between mowing and grazing, a mode of management that allows the regeneration of soil and pastures, as well as the proliferation of a biodiversity fauna and flora. Additionally, on its borders, plant species abound, such as sloes, viburnum or hawthorns, and occasionally weasels, margays, ginetas and a multitude of small birds are seen accompanying this peculiar ecosystem with their song.

Like the meadows, the meadows of mowing are intimately related to the cattle activity that still persists in the locality. Traditionally, they were harvested by hand, currently using agricultural machinery, offering beautiful rural prints when the hay is collected in the open field.
